| NOTES FOR THE PERFORMER |
|
This Duke Ellington medley for concert band
consists of the following titles:
- Take the A-train (maestoso opening),
- Don't get around much anymore (swing),
- In a sentimental mood (ballad),
- I let a song go out of my heart (disco-rock),
- It don't mean a thing (disco-rock),
- Sophisticated lady (ballad),
- Caravan (latin)
- and concluding once more with Take the A-train.
The medley is of medium grade complexity and can be played even
by an incomplete band. There are non-essential parts for bassoons,
bass trombone and oboes. The rhythm section must contain a bass player,
preferrably on both string bass and bass guitar, and guitar. The keyboard
provides additional (non-essential) support.
