| NOTES FOR THE PERFORMER |
|---|
|
This composition borders on both classical and popular music. A 4-measure signal motif (mm. 5-8) is juxtaposed with lighter sections (see mm. 9-17 and 22-30). The overture-like character is strengthened by the contrasting middle section (mm. 53-76) with its many tempo variations and modulations; there is a climax in mm. 69-70. The main motif is harmonised and orchestration differently; its final appearance (mm. 90-93) is at a slower, more dignified tempo, leading to a 'full-blown' close at the original tempo (120 bpm). Lack of a pop music rhythm section will not impede a good performance of this intermediate grade piece. |
