| NOTES FOR THE PERFORMER |
|
This arrangement of Over the Rainbow
is a brief history through musical time. It also
displays a rainbow spectrum of tone colours. After the first melodic
statement we hear from m. 9 an 18th century counterpoint version.
Measure 17 starts in classical style, leading to a 19th century
statement in m. 25, full of chromatism. In m. 32 we arrive at the
early 20th century through a sequence of modal chords. From m. 63,
at the change of key, modern jazz harmonies are spiced up with
counterpoint voicings. The final statement is a dignified jazz chorale,
that, from m. 68, dissolves beyond the rainbow. Use the opportunity
for rubato playing and refined dynamics.
